On a beautiful May weekend, Instant Photo Booth teamed up with
Joe Pyle Photography at the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado.

We set up a traditional enclosed photo booth and next to that, we set up a simple free standing photo kiosk.

People asked, "What is this one for?" We said, "For portraits!"

What happened next was a pleasant surprise.

Sony "Portrait Booth" Case Study

Simple, yet highly effective

We had no idea how effective it would be!

Imagine a long line of well dressed couples waiting arm-in-arm to use our high quality portrait photo kiosk made up of three components; a Sony DSC-RX100 M3 camera, a notebook computer (dressed up in a picture frame), and a Canon Selphy CP910 printer.

Aside from changing batteries in the camera and adding paper to the printer, our Instant Photo Booth powered kiosk ran flawlessly for the entire six hour event, providing unassisted photo sessions with professional quality.

Instant Photo Booth is able to use the camera via Sony’s WiFi remote control interface. It behaves very much like a webcam except with spectacular image quality.

Any touch screen Windows 8 PC, tablet, or laptop will work as the control center for Instant Photo Booth. However, we used this particular device because its "tent mode" made it easy to simply place behind a picture frame.

This low cost printer provides excellent dye sublimation prints. Its only limitations are its slow speed and the fact that it only holds 18 sheets of paper at once. But given the time a typical photo session takes, the printer is able to keep up well.

Behind the scenes

Here is the kiosk from behind. The computer sits in tent mode on a block of wood just the right height to bring the screen into the center of the picture frame. The picture frame has a black matte cut to surround the screen. A velcro strap holds the frame against the computer.
